Acción Andina is the first multi-country, large-scale initiative to restore the high altitude forests of the Andes. Co-founded by ECOAN (Asociación Ecosistemas Andinos) and Global Forest Generation, our goal, over the next 25 years, is to protect and restore one million hectares (almost 2.5 million acres) of this critical ecosystem. Our growing partnership is led by dedicated on-the-ground conservation leaders that have established deep bonds with local and indigenous communities. We are responding to the urgent need to restore degraded high Andean native forest landscapes for climate resilience and water security while sustaining the last remaining high Andean cultures.
Protect
Saving from deforestation the remaining 500,000 Ha of vitally important, but little known, old-growth Polylepis forest is essential to the survival of the Andes and to our planet.
Empower
Engaging a new generation of conservation leaders and communities supported by a network of experts and resources is key to large-scale reforestation and ecosystem protection.
Restore
Restoring 500,000 Ha of lost and degraded high mountain, priority forest ecosystems by planting the right native trees in the right places will provide long-term climate resilience, including water security.
The United Nations has recognized Acción Andina as a Nature Based Solution to Climate Change. We are dedicated to making the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030 all that it can be.
Our projects will soon be accessible on explorer.land, a high resolution, interactive
map-based platform.
We’re currently developing a high-resolution, satellite-based mapping platform with explorer.land. It will provide a bird’s eye view of of our projects, showing existing forest, reforestation sites, and nurseries while presenting relevant information about these areas.
We are grateful to Global Forest Generation and all our active supporters. We look forward to long-lasting, productive partnerships as we continue to build our ecosystem of collaboration.
