Our projects are now accessible on Restoration Scope, a high-resolution, interactive map.
Explore our interactive platform and witness the impact of Acción Andina in restoring high Andean forests. This map reflects our commitment and the collective effort of communities and partners across the region. While our data is still being updated, this is a first look at our real-time progress.

In the high Andes of Latin America, hundreds of communities are uniting across five countries to secure water sources and save the global climate. Learn how they do it – and why an old tree is a secret weapon in their fight.
With great enthusiasm, we kick off the 2025-26 season of Acción Andina, reinforcing our mission to restore and protect high Andean forests. This year, we continue working alongside communities and partners across Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Argentina, and Colombia, strengthening conservation efforts, ecological restoration, and sustainable livelihoods.
In a special journey, Constantino Aucca returned to the forests of Apurímac, where his mentor, Jon Fjeldså, once told him: “These forests and the people who live here need someone to protect them.” Today, that vision drives our work more than ever. This is just the beginning—join us in preserving the Andes! 🌿💚
Ecuador’s majestic Chimborazo glacier is shrinking, threatening local water supplies. To combat this, Acción Andina—alongside conservation leaders and communities—is restoring high-altitude forests that capture moisture, regulate water cycles, and protect fragile ecosystems. Blending modern science with ancestral knowledge, this initiative ensures restoration is both innovative and deeply rooted in tradition. Follow Acción Andina President and ECOAN founder Constantino Aucca Chutas (Tino) to Chimborazo National Park, where local partner Andean Adventures is leading a monumental reforestation effort to safeguard water for generations to come.
Acción Andina has been recognized as a UN World Restoration Flagship under the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. This global honor acknowledges our Andean-region reforestation initiative as one of the best examples of large-scale and long-term restoration in the world. All Acción Andina partners working across five countries in South America are honored to support this critical decade and help restore forests, protect water, and fight against climate change. #Generaciónrestauración
🌎🌱 For his efforts, Constantino Aucca has been named Champion of the Earth in the Inspiration and Action category, the United Nations’ highest environmental award. Constantino Aucca has dedicated the last 30 years to conservation and leads local communities in an effort to protect forests in South America, which are critical to combating climate change and are home to unique species of plants and animals.
Acción Andina protects and restores native forest ecosystems across the Andes. We are the first multi-country, large-scale initiative to restore high altitude forests in this region of the world. Co-founded by ECOAN (Asociación Ecosistemas Andinos) and Global Forest Generation, our goal is to protect and restore one million hectares (almost 2.5 million acres) of this critical ecosystem over the next 25 years. Our growing partnership is led by dedicated on-the-ground conservation leaders that have established deep bonds with local and indigenous communities. We are responding to the urgent need to restore degraded high Andean native forest landscapes for climate resilience and water security while sustaining the last remaining high Andean cultures.
Protect
Saving the remaining 500,000 Ha of vitally important old-growth Polylepis forest is essential to the survival of the Andes and to our planet.
Empower
Engaging a new generation of conservation leaders and communities supported by a network of experts and resources is key to large-scale reforestation and ecosystem protection.
Restore
Restoring 500,000 Ha of lost and degraded high mountain forest ecosystems by planting the right native trees in the right places will provide long-term climate resilience, including water security.
The United Nations has recognized Acción Andina as a Nature Based Solution to Climate Change. We are dedicated to making the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030 all that it can be.
We share with you the video made by Salesforce and Fortune Brand Studios about our initiative powered by ECOAN and Global Forest Generation. It was an extraordinary experience to be part of the productoion process of the documentary. In it you can learn a little more about the work we havebeen doing throughout the Andes of South America.
Our team has developed a high-resolution, satellite-based mapping platform with explorer.land. It provides a bird’s eye view of our projects, showing existing forest, reforestation sites, and nurseries while presenting relevant information about these areas.
We are grateful to Global Forest Generation and all our active supporters. We look forward to long-lasting, productive partnerships as we continue to build our ecosystem of collaboration.
